Order of the Sinking Star Demo Walkthrough and Ending

Treat the June 2026 demo as a historical build

This page describes the Steam Next Fest demo from June 2026. The current Steam listing is the full game released on October 8, 2026, so the old demo route and its availability are separate from the current product page (official demo announcement, current Steam listing).

How the demo progresses

Complete the tutorial, then use the overworld as the route hub. In the developer Q&A, the presenter says the tutorial has ended and immediately describes being in the overworld (tutorial transition at 12:48).

After the transition, open the map, choose an accessible direction, and return to another route when the current puzzle stops teaching you a new mechanic. The demo playthrough also describes the four directional structure and its time-limited context (demo route discussion). Use the progressive walkthrough and hints guide when you need help without exposing every move.

How to know when the demo has ended

Stop when the game displays the explicit sign “this is the end of the demo.” That is the developer’s stated completion cue in the Q&A (end-marker answer at 48:54). The same answer explains that the game is non-linear, so the endpoint can direct you elsewhere instead of presenting a single linear finale.

Do not substitute a puzzle count, a particular ceremony, or a guessed final room for the sign. If the sign has not appeared, continue checking accessible routes or confirm that you are actually running the historical demo build described by this page.

What to do before the end marker

Use the map to choose the next reachable route, then solve one room at a time and keep the last known route in mind. When a room stalls, use undo or restart and move to another path; the full game’s official description explicitly supports revisiting challenges and exploring at your own pace (Steam game description).

For a mechanic-specific detour, use the heroes, mirrors, and light guide or the skipping-stones guide. These pages keep room-specific moves separate from the historical demo’s general completion cue.

If the sign never appears

First check the build and mode: the supplied Q&A describes a June demo, while the current store page describes the full release. Then check whether you have completed the tutorial transition and reached the overworld. If the game still offers open routes, use the map and a room-level hint; an old level count cannot prove completion across different demo builds.

This page covers the verified tutorial transition and completion signal. For an individual puzzle, use a room-level hint and the current board layout rather than relying on an old level count.
