Order of the Sinking Star Walkthrough: Progressive Hints
The safest way to get unstuck
Use a five-step ladder: identify the room, name the mechanic that is blocking you, test one reversible move, change routes when the room stops teaching you, and open exact footage only after the board matches. The Steam description says you can come and go between four worlds and revisit challenges, so leaving one puzzle for another route fits the game’s structure.
- Identify the board. Record the world, nearby characters, distinctive objects, and whether the room is a regular level or a mixed area.
- Name the first mechanic. Ask whether the obstacle is a push, pull, teleport, mirror, beam, gem, or water interaction before moving anything.
- Test one reversible change. The supplied demo footage shows the player pushing a rock, using undo, restarting a level, and undoing the reset when the restart was unhelpful (push and undo, restart and undo the reset).
- Switch routes. If the room gives no new information after a reset, return to the overworld and work on another accessible route. Keep the unresolved room identified so you can return without starting the search again.
- Escalate by room. Use a video only when its title, world, and visible starting layout match your board. Pause at the first mismatch instead of copying the remaining inputs.
Use hints in increasing strength
The first hint should tell you what to inspect, the second should name the mechanic, and the final hint should expose a room-specific move sequence. This order preserves the puzzle while still giving you a reliable exit when you are stuck.
Hint 1: find the intended interaction
Look for the object that changes the board state: a movable rock, a crystal, a mirror, a gem activation square, or a lily pad. Check the space behind the object and the destination you ultimately need. A blocked exit is often a consequence of object order rather than a missing item.
Hint 2: use the correct character or system
Ask which ability can make the final interaction possible. The provided playthrough describes different character abilities and shows a wizard teleporting with a crystal; use that as a mechanic clue, not as a universal route for every board (character and crystal context, wizard and crystal teleport). The exact positions still belong to the named room on screen.
Hint 3: reset before you commit
Use undo when the last move changed the board in the wrong direction. Use restart when the arrangement is too tangled to diagnose, then undo the reset if you need to recover the previous state. This preserves a clean comparison between the useful and harmful arrangements.
Hint 4: change the world
Move to another accessible route when the current room has stopped revealing a new interaction. The heroes, mirrors, and light guide explains the mechanic families; the skipping-stones guide covers the water route. Return to the original room after learning the relevant system elsewhere.
Hint 5: open the exact route
Use a room-specific video for the final answer. A video titled for one world or gold room is evidence for that board only. The supplied subtitle files do not establish a complete, current move database for the entire game, so a route without a matching room identity is a poor substitute for the in-game layout.
When a walkthrough does not match
Stop at the first mismatch and re-check the world, room name, character set, and current game build. A single playthrough can demonstrate a mechanic while still using a different board state. If your route depends on gems or a dragon, move to the dragon and gem puzzle guide; if it depends on water, use the skipping-stones guide. Keep the unresolved room as the next search target rather than applying an unlabelled input string.
The practical stopping point
You have enough help when you can name the blocked interaction and make the next test without exposing the whole route. If the board still does not make sense after the mechanic hint, undo or restart once, switch to another accessible world, and return with the room identity recorded. For an exact route, match a current video to the room before copying inputs; this page does not provide a complete all-puzzle move list.
